The most common cause of anemia is nutritional deficiency, followed by hemolytic anemia, where blood decreases and bone marrow disorders like MDS and blood cancers.
The most cause of low platelets is Infections, ITP, and bone marrow disorders, as mentioned before.

Can we correct anemia with diet alone?

Iron helps in increasing the production of red blood cells. Food items rich in iron are:

- Papaya leaf extract is shown to increase platelet count in these patients.
- However, these are small studies are not strong enough to recommend papaya leaf extract as a medication in patients with low platelet counts.
- Again low platelets are caused by various diseases, and the mechanism of thrombocytopenia is different in each disorder. It’s not wise to recommend papaya as a blanket therapy for the disease.
